The Choir for Houseless Communities now entitled Neighbors is a pilot project led by Morris to bring music education to organizations serving vulnerable populations in the Greater Portland area, including First Christian Church, Portland Homeless Family Solutions, Mt. Scott Alternative High School, Mt. Hood Elementary School Headstart, Westmoreland Union Manor, and Street Roots.

An important component of this program involves engaging houseless members creatively with music, while also connecting them with social services and resources. These music outreach initiatives overall not only seek to create a broader sense of healing and possibility for the Portland houseless community, but will also offer students the opportunity to truly enact the university motto, “Let Knowledge Serve the City.”
